A BNP delegation headed by its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir held a meeting with United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Miroslav Jenča at his invitation at the UN headquarters on Thursday.
The two others delegation member were party’s executive committee member Tabith Awal and Assistant Foreign Secretary Humayun Kabir.
During the meeting, several important issues including the situation of the graft case against the BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and the government’s ‘oppression’ on the party leaders and activists were discussed.
He, however, did not inform about any outcome of the meeting saying, “Can the result be known after a one-day meeting?,” reports bdnews24.
Fakhrul said they had discussed the political situation in Bangladesh as well as the overall situation of their party.
Following the meeting in New York, the BNP secretary general left for Washington DC.
BNP sources said he went to Washington DC to hold talks with US State Department officials.
Meanwhile, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said that the United Nations has called them as they can do this.
“We’ll not bow down to any pressure… Election will be held as per the constitution,” said the ruling party leader reacting over Fakhrul’s visit.
