The country’s New Zealand Herald says that Stokes has been nominated as a “New Zealand City of the Year” for his outstanding performances. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has received nomination with Stokes, TV host Samuel Barnett, former Rugby Star Manu Bhutwei and Afghan immigrant Abdul Aziz, who was attacked by a deadly attack on the Christchurch Mosque.
Chief selector Cameron Bennett said, “Ben Stokes probably does not represent the Black Cap. But she was born in Christchurch. So we think of him yet. ‘
England all-rounder Stokes scored an unbeaten 84 in the World Cup. Besides, he took 465 runs in the entire World Cup as well as 7 wickets.
New Zealand’s year-old citizen will be finalized by September 15. The names of 10 people who have been nominated for the final year will be released in December. The prize for the year will be awarded in February next year.
On 4 June 1991, Stokes was born in Christchurch, New Zealand. He spent his childhood here Stokes’s father, Gerard Stokes Rugby, moved to England with family to coaching in the Rugby League. Ben Stokes has been in England since the age of 12. Later on, when the family returned to Christchurch, Ben Stokes left from England.
